September 2012 floods – see September rains and Ouse in flood, again.
Found in the ‘family photos’ this faded old print, with ‘1978′ scribbled on the back in blue biro.
Ouse Bridge is almost under water. It reminds me of T S Eliot’s ‘The Dry Salvages’, where he describes the river as a ’strong brown god’:
“the brown god is almost forgotten
By the dwellers in cities — ever, however, implacable.
Keeping his seasons and rages, destroyer, reminder
Of what men choose to forget.”
