I love railway stations. * I particularly love York Station, as it’s just so gorgeously classy and spirit-uplifting, with its big curved roof and all the light coming in. On Easter Sunday I passed through here on my way to somewhere else. Which is what everyone else was doing too, but most of them were waiting for trains. The light fell through the station platform opening, behind them, and lit the ground they walked on. I don’t suppose they realised how beautiful it looked – they were busy, waiting for trains.
* Apart from Birmingham New Street. And Stevenage station, where I had to sleep once, on a footbridge.
