A quick snapshot of last week’s torch relay through Yorkshire, via tweets on Twitter.
The day before it arrived in York, I’d been moved to tears by the live coverage from Pickering town centre.
Watching the #bbctorchrelay for the first time, & listening to @bbcyork. Alison Bates, & her guide dog, in Pickering. Happy crowds. Lovely

Next day, went to see its arrival in York. Not quite as impressed.
Just got back from trying to see torch. Saw big blue bus mainly. Better ‘pictures’ on #localradio with @joncowap & locals on @bbcyork …

But the view was better from Clifford’s Tower:
Hilarious (read, unnecessary) entourage around torch, but we had fun in the sun around Clifford’s tower.

Twitter poets reported on the torch’s progress through the streets, and to the Knavesmire:
18. It was Carnival time:/York at its best;/The city en fete,/Having a ball.#yorktorch

The following day, Alan Mak, born and brought up on Gillygate in York, carried the torch in Bedale:
Just finished carrying #OlympicTorch for @magic_breakfast! Amazing experience! Brilliant crowd. Thank you #Bedale!#London2012TorchRelay
