I was rather charmed by this image of a familiar thing from an unfamiliar angle.
It’s not really a mysterious tower in an enchanted forest – it’s one of the 19th century toll houses on Lendal Bridge, looking up from the riverside behind the old sub station that’s now the hub station, where a tree grows out of the river bank.
I had a look down here when passing, remembering suddenly a sunny summer evening about 25 years ago – drinking Piemontello here on the riverbank with a friend – Helen – I wonder where she is now.
I expect that wherever she is, her taste in wine has improved, as has mine …
If only they still made Piemontello
