I think I remember you! My father, Maurice Long, had a printing shop in Fossgate and he may have been aquainted with you at the Rawcliffe works where he was in the drawing office. My mother came from Liverpool and they lived in Bright Avenue.
I wondershich number you lived at in Fossgate. The printing shop was number 23 next door to the cinema.
Best regards

Very appropriate on anniversary of York's Baedecker Raid,to recall the places where our blue uniformed airmen and Allies, enjoyed themselves,in between their dangerous ventures in the air.
I believe the miniature fair ground Guy remembered was in fact where British Home Store now is,a cobbled alleyway, opening out into a courtyard.I've always thought it once a stabling yard, back of an old time hostelry.

In it there were, side shows, slot nachines, and a whirling/joyous roudabout. These blue uniformed airmen and allies, would take over the place spending
energy and money energetically,to compensate for their endurance night mare over Europe, exacting retribition for bombing raids, all over the U.K.that we all endured. The memories of these men enjoying them selves in York's 'FleshPots
and dance hall venues,as relief from their night mare over Europe, has endured to this day.

I remember a large amusement arcade in Coney Street on the site which is now Marks and Spencers. There were numerous stalls such as coconut shies and darts etc. At the far end was a huge "roundabout" that went up and down as it revolved. I also remember York being bombed by the Germans in April 1942 when the railway station was hit. Clifton aerodrome was also a target where much damage was done and a huge crater was made on what it the Rawcliffe Allotment
