We sat on sarcophagi and snogged
In an instant, my memory jogged.
It all came back in a dark, wild rush
I felt again, my face go flush.

I know that night he held my form
I felt his embrace strong and warm.
I could only succumb when in his arms.
Surely he used his kit of charms.

He tied my heart up as with a string
With his cuddles, his charm and kissing.
But did he know or remember today
How we were back on that day?

We were so young and awkward and strange
Passion was such, my sense deranged.
We shared but a night on sarcophagi and snogged.
Is it only me whose memory jogged?

If you all have a go at haiku on the York theme, I promise I’ll try to add more lines to ‘We sat on sarcophagi and snogged’. Which is my line, which I now feel quite possessive of, and refuse to hand over to Simon Armitage (like he’s banging on my door demanding it) …

“We sat on sarcophagi and snogged” - that’s a brilliant first line, but now I want to read the rest of the poem! Perhaps someone nearly local like Tony Harrison or Simon Armitage would like to complete it - unless you already have!
