The demolition of the Terry's factory is indeed confusing. The original river facing block was demolished around 1975, but that was only one part of the Terry's Clementhorpe site. An additional red brick block existed on Cherry Tree Lane (you can see it on the right hand side of the photograph). The top tier of the higher building had the company name in large white letters, which could be clearly viewed when walking along the Bar Walls towards Baile Hill. This block certainly still existed in 1979 and was referred to as Terry's "old" Factory, to distinguish it from the "new" factory on Bishopthorpe Road. I think this and other peripheral buildings were only demolished a short time before Postern Close was built in 1987.

Hargreaves was beyond the right hand corner of the photograph (just past the car) and faced Skeldergate Bridge. Their sign would be seen when coming down the steps of the Bar Walls on Baile Hill.
