I wasn&#8217;t sure if this was the Rowntree factory, as though I knew Rowntrees had had a factory here, I&#8217;d read a reference to a Rowntree building in this area being burnt out by the &#8216;Baedeker raid&#8217; bombing in April 1942, so was rather confused. It would seem though that the bombed building was a nearby warehouse also owned by Rowntrees. (Maybe where the garden area now is, right next to the riverside?)&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;In more recent times, before demolition, it was the factory of Armstrong Oilers (they made automatic lubricating equipment for fit to works&#8217; machinery).&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This historic factory was, sadly, removed completely for the construction of the Norwich Union Insurance Building (now called Aviva) in the neo-Gothic style.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Prior to his there was plans for the site to become a tourist-orientated centre with a giant IMAX cinema. But the proposal ran out of money and was never built.&lt;/p&gt;
