My very first job was washing up at the Rockwell Rooms in the school holidays when I was 14/15 (around 1997-8). The tea rooms were certainly a busy and popular spot in those days. David and Rosemary, the proprietors, were really nice and the staff (mainly students working part-time) were a great bunch. I also remember Neil, the chef. Happy times!

I also have memories of buying aniseed balls from an old-fashioned sweet shop which was located in the arcade.

It was quite smart around there in the early-mid '90s - a pity it was overlooked and seemingly passed-by by so many who presumably didn't notice it or weren't aware of its existence.

In the 90s, my late mum was Principal of York Business College, which occupied a large part of the Arcade, above the Blake Street entrance (now New Look). It was the most successful part of the arcade. Happy to share my memories with anyone. I remember it extremely well!

I can remember the Stonegate Arcade vaguely. There was a clothes shop called Cloud Nine which I think was near the Stonegate entrance. The only other one I can remember was Naf Naf which was either in the New Look shop or in that sort of area.

I was involved with Stonegate walk from 1992-1995 when I worked at DTZ who managed the centre.
We arranged all sorts of activities and had no empty shops by 1995. I did some research which I think went into an advert in the Evening Press. The snickelway names have a connection to the area and families who lived on the site. There was also a piano factory on the site called Waddington and Sons.
