I’d be sad to see it go. It’s a mark of where we came from, almost a memorial to the optimism of those post war years. The Dame Judi, cupcakes and cafes view of York is potentially quite enervating if it’s allowed to iron out all the spikey bits of our recent history.

The most dispiriting place I’ve ever visited is Prince Charles’ showpiece Dorset village of Poundbury. Not a monstrous carbuncle in sight but being there feels like you’re being smothered to death with a damp Daily Telegraph.
