Hi Trev,Dug into memory, but can;t recall such a shop, higher up Micklegate.Must emphasise I was 4 to 8 years old at the time,,attending my first infant school under the bar called Micklegate ,and must have passed all the shops toddling to and fro. The 1852 map shows a shop called"Letter Receiving Office",5 houses up from Trinity church, but the one i remember-Post Office/Newsagents/Sweet shop, was right next to Trinity Church which I frequented in the day, being opposite my grandads shop.Sorry If no help.

The 1852 map of york-Micklegate area, shows nine pubs from Bridge St to Nunnery lane including the Red Lion named by David,( the map that Lisa often uses for background detail on her surveys). As follows-From the bottom of the hill,The Qeens/Blue Bell/Falcon/Nags Head/Red Lion/Coach and Horses/Bare Foot/Jolly Bacchus/Punch Bowl outside the Bar.I lived from 1934 to 1938 in my grandads chemist shop(now a solicitors),which was sandwiched between the Falcon and Nags head, with a huge length back garden, running down to Toft Green, where I played little lad games-galloping to and fro.riding the yard brush, cowboy fashion!Certainly was an easy place to get sloshed in those days, with surfeit of pubs, with Grandiose names, and I suppose must be said that " Nowt Changes"!!
