The additional storey is out of keeping and alien in design and concept to the original listed building.
It adds nothing , indeed distracts from the original symmetry of the important front building looking and dominant to Haxby Road .
The building is seemingly still sound and adaptable and its very size along should give it financial feasibility without the addition of an extra layer of ill thought out tinkering.
If theres one thing that has always been obvious with all the original site buildings be they library, dining hall , theatre , fire station etc the factory was carefully planned and designed to add interest and blended appeal by its original owners.
This is simply greedy ,speculative and inappropriate development of the kind that is now all too prevalent .

The Height of New Buildings
This is the third development I have seen in as many months where the buildings have been planned to increase in height from existing buildings.
We objected to the McCarthy and Stone replacement for Oliver House in Bishophill - we lost. We have objected to the height of the new hotel planned for Peaseholme Green/HUNGATE 1 area - we await the verdict. Now this - I do not like the chalet either.

Thank you Graham for adding this helpful info. Sadly as a York Card is apparently required for entry to Residents Festival events I won't be visiting any of the events/venues myself (I no longer buy a York Card now they're no longer valid for entry to the Castle Museum and Yorkshire Museum) but I'm sure this will be of interest to other residents, many thanks.
