I went to primary school with Andrea capaldi I believe she was one of the grandchildren, I am 50 this year and lost touch with Andrea when we started secondary school but have fond memories of visiting the factory and how amazed I was to see how ice cream was made. Leaving this on here ya never know may get to know how Andrea is. My name back then was Claire Metcalfe I lived in car field in woodthorpe and Andrea lived in the street opposite on the corner where you would walk round to the next street to get to the shops.

I was recently sorting out some memorabilia and found a business card with Capaldis Ice Cream Manufacturers. My husband and I were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary in Cyprus, Ayai Napa in October 1991 and we made friends with a lovely young couple and their young child whose surname was Capaldi. They may remember that their room leaked from a heavy downpour and we looked after the child for an hour while they sorted it.
Does anyone in the family remember this?

Hi Alan,
Thank you for sharing that memory with us. Who you are describing was Olympio Capaldi (uncle ollie) who was Joseph Capaldi's brother. He used to come over every year to help his brother with the ice cream, and he was still climbing olive trees on his farm in Italy when he was 86! He had a good life, and used to love to come to England.

I lived in Alcuin Avenue from 1936 6o 1945, and I remember Joe Capaldi, with his gold tooth, riding along our avenue on his tricycle, dispensing ice cream cones and sandwiches in the early 40s. Always a smile for us kids, underneath a trilby hat. The cornet was 2d, and the sandwiches were 3d and 6d.
