The Blue Coat School was in St Anthony’s Hall next to St Cuthbert’s which then became the Borthwick Institute (now at York University). Did the school move to what is now Hotel du Vin? Google ‘Blue Coat School’ for more information.

Next to St Cuthbert’s Church there was Blue Coat School what ever happened to it does anyone know?.

Whitebeams are native trees, producing flowers and berries. Developers do seem to have a habit of getting planning permission and then tweaking it. It would be a great shame to lose a native species and such a lovely tree. Re: the chestnut at St Cuthberts. Both these trees will be taking up a great deal of moisture from the surrounding ground. Felling them might cause some rise in the surrounding ground level.
